Re: valor
Wed, September 1, 2004 - 9:12 AMLol! In all honesty, I think there's probably about 3 Valor songs that I like. Other than that it's Rozz all the way!
-
Re: valor
Wed, September 1, 2004 - 10:24 AMIs there anyone who actually Valor? Is there such thing as a Valor fan? I would be really curious as to what kind of people are into his shit. -

Re: valor
Wed, September 1, 2004 - 10:24 AM* excuse me, is there anyone who actually LIKES Valor -
-
Re: valor
Thu, September 2, 2004 - 2:09 PMI would like to refer any Valor fans to his portrait in the original Catastrophe Ballet insert.
-
Re: valor
Tue, September 14, 2004 - 6:06 PMI'm sure they must exist as the band still makes the rounds.
I have a real soft spot for Sick of Love, off of Scriptures. This is likely since when I first got a taste of Christian Death in 88 I was given a tape with Only Theatre of Pain on one side and Scriptures on the other.
Those sweet violins (or synth violins) in Sick of Love! As an album Scriptures isn't too shabby. He sure isn't Rozz, that's for sure. -

Re: valor
Fri, October 22, 2004 - 4:17 PMby comparison, there really is none.. two completely different bands - valor is a poser most of the time, and when he's not posing, he's just plain lame..
rozz is the true christian death, there's no arguement there.. the one song by valor that i like is this is heresy, then a couple here and there, but that about tops it for valor..
and you're right, the pic of him in catastrophe ballet is gross.. -
-
Re: valor
Fri, October 22, 2004 - 5:46 PMWhat I love about Valor is how pompous he is regarding Rozz, he'll say stuff like "I tried to get Rozz to write serious lyrics, but he was just stuck with this surrealist stuff" while Valor is supposedly writing these brilliant political lyrics. Actually, Valor, your lyrics are asinine and juvenile, whereas Rozz's are poetry. Rozz was intelligent and open-minded enough to move past condemning the Church every other song, whereas Valor seems incapable of getting over the fact that, yep, Christianity can be awful hypocritical. -

Re: valor
Fri, October 22, 2004 - 8:14 PMvalor is just his own ghost. He should retire and open a silicon centre with Maitri. End of the story. "Believers of the unpure" is history. RIP Valor!
-
Re: valor
Sat, October 30, 2004 - 8:26 PMVal dressed up as Rozz when they played the Masquerade in Atlanta.. No denying it. He tried to let the kiddies think they were one and the same person. No shit. I was stunned. He *actually* dressed up as Rozz. Crazy!
What was really bizarre - it was a decent show, all told. They hit all the important spots and had Rikk Agnew on guitar. They copped Rozz's tunes half of the time - AHEM sssSOMEbody was singing his lyrics, in his voice, no less.

Re: valor
Tue, November 9, 2004 - 11:40 PMValor stole the name. Valor stole the glory. Valor rubbed shit on Rozz's work to take all his merits. Valor killed Christian Death starting new co-operations with bands and musicians who have really nothing to do with Rozz's music and lyrics.
Valor is living for the money. He is a believer of the unpure (great song, by the way) -

Re: valor
Wed, November 10, 2004 - 4:38 AMI was talking of christian death with Valor singing.
The best song for me remains The Blue Hour. -

Re: valor
Wed, November 10, 2004 - 4:55 AMthe creepy thing about both only theatre of pain and catasrope ballet is that rozz sounds completely different in both of them
the voice doesnt even sound like the same person -
-
Re: valor
Wed, November 10, 2004 - 8:27 AMReally? I think it sounds exactly the same. Rozz has a very distinct voice. -
-
Re: valor
Wed, November 10, 2004 - 9:05 AMHe "sings" more / "croaks breathlessly" less on later albums. One thing I loved about uhhhh what was that one.... uhhhh Decomposition of Violets! - he sings tunes (live) that were originally croaked in the studio.
Not that I'm against the croaking. I love the croaking. -

Re: valor
Wed, November 10, 2004 - 10:18 AMyou dont notice how on theatre he is much more winey almost kinda fem? and on catastrophe he is using a much more deeper tone? -
-
Re: valor
Wed, November 10, 2004 - 2:15 PMI think alot of this has to do with his age at the time. -
-
Re: valor
Thu, November 11, 2004 - 12:40 PMThere's drugs to consider as well. His croaking on the italian release of "Deathwish" (later packaged with Only Theatre CD as bonus tracks) the boy is so hopped on downers he drops a few lines. There, his voice is at its highest pitch. I not that when he *sings* his pitch drops nearly an octave. I'd still say the tone, though, is unique. A satin-rasp, if you will.

Sun, July 3, 2005 - 11:36 AMWhen my friends (some of who knew Rozz really well) and I saw Christian Death in Santa Barbara in the late 80's we were like "Who the fuck is this this Valor guy? What a joke!"
We then proceeded to drop acid, play pool and heckle Valor the entire evening.
What a great night!
Rozz is the real Christian Death -

didn't Valor write Sex, drugs and Jesus Christ?

Re: valor
Mon, November 6, 2006 - 8:32 AMSaw Valor's band sometime in the mid-late 80's and just wasn't as impressed as I hoped I'd be. It was like a bad xerox of a xerox of CD. Later I sat in on an interview with Valor by a friend who was reporting for some university paper and he was enourmously ungracious. -

Re: valor
Mon, November 13, 2006 - 10:57 AMRozz vs. Valor thing ? two entirely different subjects being compared.Valor: a cross dressing hairy man with lyrics and visions of the end of the world with extensive historical research.i think he'd of been slightly more appreciated under a different name.CHRISTIAN DEATH is taken buddy!!! Rozz; just fucking amazing.you are sevearly missed. -
-
Re: valor
Tue, November 14, 2006 - 10:37 AMI don't see much extensive historical research evidenced in Valor, so much as a repetition of anti-Church cliches, as if we all needed Valor to tell us how Christendom is hypocritical, venal, murderous, etc. -
-
Re: valor
Tue, November 14, 2006 - 11:45 AMPerhaps I'd appreciate him more under a different name...I coudn't possibly appreciate him less. -
-
Re: valor
Fri, November 17, 2006 - 7:52 AMI'd say that, too - but then I look at that picture of him in the old Catastrophe insert and - magically - appreciate him less.
Conversely, on the vilest, silliest, most drug-addled stage-mistake of his career, I still look at Rozz and think "ohhh you poor boy - you tragic starchild - you sad elf - you beautiful thing" and I'm not even gay. Much.
Rozz was art. Valor is imposture - not that I think Valor is not valid or sometimes entertaining (his work as a hyped-up poseur is groundbreaking at least..? and I'm fond of Wind-Kissed Pictures, Atrocities, and Scriptures myself) - but he is hardly the icon that Rozz just naturally was. Rozz's posing was separate from and yet vital to his poetry and his performances. He was an artist, he didn't bother with any coherent "message" or agenda, his affectations were sincere and colored by deeply felt emotions. Valor is a prancing pony with a wicked streak. The two are hardly comparable, in an art-crit sense, and completely differently-flavored candy, in a musical sense. -

Re: valor
Fri, November 17, 2006 - 2:31 PMI think I've only heard Valor's X-tian Death.
Sadly, perhaps...
what are some good Rozz albums to sample? -
-
Re: valor
Fri, November 17, 2006 - 2:44 PMOnly Theatre of Pain
Ashes
Catastrophe Ballet
The latter two(?) have Valor on them, but Rozz hasn't been eliminated yet. -

Re: valor
Fri, November 17, 2006 - 4:25 PMFunny true story: I was just listening to my favorite online radio station (darksparkle.com) and heard something that sounded like a bad Christian Death imitation. I looked to see what it was, and it was Valor's Christian Death (Somnium [5:11] - Insanus, Ultio, Proditio, Misericordia Que).

Re: valor
Sun, March 18, 2007 - 11:16 AMUnfortunately, the only CDs I have are with Valor. Sex Drugs and Jesus Christ and Attrocities and I hate them both. There's only a few songs on each CD that I enjoy. I haven't had the time or the money to get Rozz Christian Death. That, and they were the only Christian Death songs I could find in Maine. I should look for some CDs on the internet for cheap. -

Re: valor
Tue, August 21, 2007 - 7:42 PMI guess the difference is between Rozz's tortured poetry and Valor's rockstar posing. It must be hard for him when respect is hard to come by... -

Re: valor
Wed, August 22, 2007 - 1:45 AMI still wonder how come Valor has not hired any midgets spitting flames for his videos...they have more to say than he does.
